Another firefight broke out in the West Bank. Three men were killed in the process. According to the Israeli secret service, two of them were Palestinian assassins.
According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, three Palestinians were killed during an Israeli military operation in the West Bank. According to the Israeli military, two of them are said to have been involved in a terrorist attack that killed three British-Israeli women in early April.
The forces had surrounded a house in the old town of Nablus and fired on the building. On the basis of intelligence information, fighters from the Israeli domestic secret service Shin Bet and soldiers entered the apartment. A third man, an accomplice of the two Hamas assassins, was also killed in an exchange of fire.
According to reports, a drone with explosives was also used in the operation. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the action shows attackers would ultimately be caught. “Whether it takes a day, a week or a month – you can be sure that we will settle accounts with you.”
Hamas announces retaliation
The radical Islamist Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip, called the men “heroes of the resistance” in a statement and announced retaliation for their “criminal killing and revenge for the blood of the martyrs”. Palestinian television reported that the Israeli security forces were disguised as Arabs when they entered the city. Dozens of vehicles then came to reinforce.
The building in which the men were hiding was attacked with rockets and destroyed. Because of the serious injuries, it is difficult to identify the bodies.
Already 19 dead at terrorist attacks
Nablus is in the Israeli-occupied West Bank. The Palestinian Authority is actually in control there, in fact there have been a number of Israeli military operations there and elsewhere in recent months.
So far this year, 19 people have been killed in suspected Palestinian terrorist attacks. Almost 100 Palestinians died in Israeli military operations or in their own attacks.
